Did Nicki Minaj Undergo Butt Enhancement Surgery Because Of A Rapper?

Publish date: 2024-09-01

Nicki Minaj’s rise to fame may have seemed like it came out of nowhere, but trust and believe that this Trinidadian hustled her way to becoming one of the biggest female rappers of all time. After signing her deal with Young Money/Cash Money, it seemed as if Minaj’s career was in full effect, following the release of her debut album, Pink Friday, in 2010.

Of course, she had already released a string of mixtapes beforehand, which allowed Minaj, real name Onika Maraj, to already build a fanbase strong enough to acquire the top spot upon releasing her first body of work.

But in a new interview with Joe Budden, the Hard White rapper, who is worth a reported $85 million, has revealed that her early years in the music industry were anything but joyful because her mind was plagued with insecurity brought upon by the man who ultimately went on to change her life.

Minaj admitted that she did, in fact, have “butt shots” but her decision in getting the procedure done was mainly because of a joke made by her mentor, rapper Lil Wayne. So what exactly did he say? Here’s the lowdown…

Did Nicki Minaj Have Butt Surgery?

Though she has never addressed her voluptuous figure in the past, Minaj told Joe Budden in March 2022 that she did undergo surgery to enhance the size of her buttocks.

She recalled being in the recording studio with Wayne and his female muses, who were all much curvier than her.

Minaj quickly picked up on the idea that she would never be good enough as a female rapper unless she resembled the figure of those women who her male rap friends were often bringing to the studio with them.

“Wayne would have a new chick in the studio every session, so it was always a new big booty,” the Super Bass chart-topper said.

“They were his muses. I wanna make sure I don’t downplay [the women] because they have a big part in the journey of a rapper’s career.”

Did Lil Wayne Joke About Nicki’s Body?

The mother-of-one admitted that she would often hear her rap peers joke about her figure because Minaj didn’t look anything like the women they were used to hanging around.

And to nobody’s surprise, it affected her self-esteem, prompting her to get her butt enlarged.

“I was around them all the time,” she revealed. “All I would hear them talking about is bug butts. I didn’t feel complete or good enough.”

“When you say certain things around women you can’t take them back.”

"Social media was just beginning when I started so I was a lot of people's guinea pigs. I was one of the first people to be sh***ed on the internet," she continued.

”It wasn't acceptable to have surgery at all or anything and at that time, I had never had surgery. I had ass shots, which, to this day, I realize even with me not consulting with anyone to do something like that, how insane that was... And actually what happened was I kept on being around [Lil] Wayne and them. At that time, you know Wayne, he's always talking about big booties.

Nicki Minaj Takes Her Radio Show Elsewhere

In 2018, Minaj launched her ever-so-successful Queen Radio on Apple Music.

But in March 2022, it was announced that Queen Radio has found a new home: Amazon’s Amp radio app.

She gushed about the deal to her fans on Instagram Live, where she posted a statement to reveal the exciting new venture.

“I am very excited to be partners with Amazon on bringing back Queen Radio,” expressed. “Queen Radio is something that is so dear to my heart. Of course, there have been times where I’ve thought about not wanting to do Queen Radio, or any radio for that matter, but why not?”

Amp is Amazon’s upcoming live radio app where users will be able to curate their favorite music, play it for their listeners and interact with them through a built-in chat feature.

The beta version is currently only available in the United States.

Queen Radio was a huge success for Minaj on Apple Music, where the rap superstar infamously poked fun at Travis Scott for claiming he had sold more albums than the female MC after her album Queen was prevented from reaching the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 200 as Scott’s record Astroworld returned to the top spot that same week.
