Heres Why Camila Cabellos Cinderella Is Confusing Twitter

Publish date: 2024-09-30

Amazon's modern retelling of Cinderella staring Camila Cabello spins the fairy tale in a new light. Ella isn't a damsel in distress in this version - in fact, she's working hard to be a seamstress. The trailer has made it clear that classic tropes will be broken, happily ever after's will be questioned, and Cinderella is an independent woman chasing after her dreams instead of waiting for her "someday".

Fans of the Disney fairy tale are confused by the adaptation's many differences, especially because it changes everything from the original story. Well, at least the music is great!

Cinderella With A Feminist Twist

Fans are unhappy about the film's decision to recreate an "independent Cinderella". In the fairy tale, Ella escapes her abusive household so she can have a night to herself and unintentionally captures the Prince's attention. In the upcoming film, Ella; an aspiring seamstress hopes to attend the ball to show off a dress which she has sewn herself.

After Prince Charming informs Ella that he has chosen her as his Princess, Cabello's Ella replies "What about my work?" Fans aren't exactly thrilled about it.

"I do not want a movie about an independent Cinderella...She was not trying to work anymore, chile. She had ENOUGH of being molly the maid, that's why she was playing footsie with the prince at the ball. DUH," wrote a fan.

"how did they see cinderella escape her abusive household just so she can enjoy one night to herself and also happen to catch a prince's attention and go 'what she really needs is to be a proud business owner'.." wrote another.

"They really said: Girlboss Gatekeep Glass-Slipper," wrote a third.

"Reject modernity, embrace tradition" wrote another, comparing the dresses of Cinderella (2015) and the upcoming version.

In a recreation of the dressing Cinderella before the ball scene, Billy Porter (who plays Ella's Fabulous Godmother) fashions Ella a blue suit, before changing it into an extravagant white and silver gown.

"I'd be so sad if i was playing cinderella and didn't get the big blue dress," shared a fan.

"I'm so confused - why isnt it blue?" added another.

The most recent Cinderella movie was released in 2015. Starring Lily James as the iconic Disney Princess and Richard Madden as Prince Charming, the adaptation was much-loved by critics and lauded by fans. Unfortunately, its lack of big musical numbers caused some disappointment, but Cabello's version promises plenty!
